{"id":1208,"date":"2009-01-10T04:35:06","date_gmt":"2009-01-10T04:35:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/?p=1208"},"modified":"2009-01-10T04:35:06","modified_gmt":"2009-01-10T04:35:06","slug":"wanting-thing-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/?p=1208","title":{"rendered":"Wanting Thing One"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/tobj1.jpg\"><br \/>\nOn the 29th of November 2008, 2 things happened to me that never happened before.<\/p>\n<p><b>Thing One<\/b> &#8211; I stepped into <b>Bangkok Jazz<\/b> for the very first time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/tobj4.jpg\"><br \/>\nSomehow, the place looked less jazzy and uppity than I thought. A real jazz bar with less apparent pretense than Alexis, I&#8217;d say.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/tobj2.jpg\"><br \/>\nI was there for <b>Thing One<\/b> (the band) with <b>Zalina Lee<\/b>. Yes that&#8217;s not a typo &#8211; she&#8217;s <b>Zalila Lee<\/b>&#8216;s sister!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/tobj3.jpg\"><br \/>\nZalina was simply a powerful soul singer with lots of range. She even did a cover of <b>Alicia Keys &amp; Jack White &#8211; Another Way To Die<\/b>&#8230; doing both Alicia&#8217;s and Jack&#8217;s part!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/tobj5.jpg\"><br \/>\nFaz and Fook reflecting on the grand piano.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/tobj6.jpg\"><br \/>\nI asked Faz if they were going to play <b>Edgar Winter Group &#8211; Frankenstein<\/b>, since the last time I bumped into her, she said <b>Giant Timeline<\/b> (another band she is in) would play tonight, and that they&#8217;d play Frankenstein.<\/p>\n<p>And so, she granted my request!<\/p>\n<p>That was <b>Thing Two<\/b>. I have never seen Frankenstein covered. Now the only song I still want to hear a cover of is <b>Lynyrd Skynyrd &#8211; Freebird<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/tobj7.jpg\"><br \/>\nNisha on the keys. The expression knob on the far left made the psychedelic sounds of Edgar Winter&#8217;s crazy Keytar sound!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/tobj8.jpg\"><br \/>\n&#8220;<i>Someday, I&#8217;ll be old enough to enter, and I&#8217;m going to sing!<\/i>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/tobj10.jpg\"><br \/>\nBesides alternating between instrumental funk jazz pieces and songs with Zalina Lee, they also called up Najwa (who was to play with Giant Timeline the next week).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/tobj9.jpg\"><br \/>\nAnd there, she is, posing for her brother, who is taking pictures of her.<\/p>\n<p>All shots with the Sony A900 and Minolta 50mm F1.4 except the last, shot with my Vivitar 24mm F2.0 DIY Tilt-Shift lens.
