{"id":12164,"date":"2023-10-22T19:40:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-22T19:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/?p=12164"},"modified":"2023-10-22T19:40:00","modified_gmt":"2023-10-22T19:40:00","slug":"hey-orang-kita-screening-gig-and-urbanscapes-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/?p=12164","title":{"rendered":"Hey Orang Kita Screening, Gig, and Urbanscapes House"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>6th May 2016: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/lifestyle\/festivals\/check-out-the-urbanscapes-2016-lineup-of-city-wide-festivities-between-23-april-8-may-in-kuala-lumpur\/\" target=\"_BLANK\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Urbanscapes 2016<\/a> returned to the center of Kuala Lumpur, in the beautiful Art Deco building that used to host OCBC Bank, now known as 2 Hang Kasturi, and perhaps Urbanscapes House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/hokt02.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Graffiti in the basement floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/hokt01.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m guessing this was the former bank&#8217;s storage area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/hokt03.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;d heard of an underground bicycle parking area, but I would not be able to tell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/hokt04.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Annoying magenta light, the bane of concert photographers everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/hokt05.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Makes for difficult white balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/hokt06.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Urbanscapes&#8217; first ever event was at Grappa Soho, Bukit Bintang, as an offshoot of KLue Magazine that covered the Kuala Lumpur scene; I bought that magazine and on it was a sleeve with a ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/hokt07.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I was there, and I&#8217;ve been to Urbanscapes every year since then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/hokt08.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Of those who went to the first, I guess not many people can claim to keep this streak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/hokt09.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival happened in many sites in Kuala Lumpur, but none as near to the origins of where Kuala Lumpur got its name as this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/hokt10.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The building, on the intersection of Jalan Hang Kasturi and Leboh Pasar Besar, was just a 2 minute walk from the Klang River bridge on Leboh Pasar Besar that overlooks the intersection of the Klang river and Gombak river, where a muddy estuary formed; &#8220;muddy estuary&#8221; is translated to Malay as Kuala Lumpur, and that is where it got its name, and is the zero point, or exact center, of Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/hokt11.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I wondered if this ever flooded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/hokt14.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>My ticket into this venue was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/d41d8cd9\/hey-orang-kita-screening-live-gig-featuring-takahara-suiko-talitha-tan-christian\/1611338049186328\/\" target=\"_BLANK\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hey Orang Kita (screening + live gig)<\/a>, which was happening on the ground floor. We got to see a short bit of the movie; after that, the cast talked about their experiences. <strong>Left to right<\/strong>: Raja Syahiran, Christian Palencia, Takahara Suiko, Talitha Tan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/hokt15.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Talitha Tan<\/strong>!
