She<\/b>: You’ve got to be realistic.
\nMe<\/b>: Why do you keep pronouncing “realistic” that way? You know, ree-al-is-tik? Isn’t it ree-uh-lis-tik?<\/p>\n

She shot me an email later with reference to Uncle D.<\/p>\n

REALISTIC<\/b>
\nre\ufffdal\ufffdis\ufffdtic [ree-uh-lis-tik]<\/p>\n

REALITY<\/b>
\nre\ufffdal\ufffdi\ufffdty [ree-al-i-tee] <\/p>\n

REAL<\/b>
\nre\ufffdal, real [ree-uhl, reel]<\/p>\n

REALLY<\/b>
\nre\ufffdal\ufffdly
\n[ree-uh-lee, ree-lee]<\/p>\n

Even in English, we can’t decide which way to pronounce derivatives of the word REAL<\/b>. Her “re-al<\/b>istic” follows “re-al<\/b>ity” but my “real<\/b>-istic” follows “real<\/b>“. Of course, REAL can be either one or two syllables and also depends on what you want it to rhyme with.<\/p>\n

I always pronounce REALLY<\/b> as rail-ee but I guess that’s not valid although everybody sings it that way, REALLY.<\/p>\n
