I loved their version of <i>Radiohead &#8211; Creep<\/i>, going all synthesizer-sounding like Pink Floyd.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb4.jpg\"><br \/>\nRebecca, drummer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb6.jpg\"><br \/>\nJie Er, bassist.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb7.jpg\"><br \/>\nAudrey Then, saxophonist.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb8.jpg\"><br \/>\nI don&#8217;t usually bring out a wide-angle to gigs these days. This, with the Sony Distagon Carl Zeiss T* 24mm F2.0 ZA SSM, was for variety.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb9.jpg\"><br \/>\nGrace Hong, ardent bootlegger.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb10.jpg\"><br \/>\nMelissa then hopped off the stage&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb11.jpg\"><br \/>\n&#8230;to show us this nifty wireless mike!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb12.jpg\"><br \/>\n(Argh, out of focus.)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb13.jpg\"><br \/>\nEverybody was to sing along to <i>Kool &#038; The Gang &#8211; Celebration<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb14.jpg\"><br \/>\nMing&#8217;s voice was particularly funny!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb15.jpg\"><br \/>\nI think he thought it was a breathalyser.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb16.jpg\"><br \/>\nAnother wide-angle shot.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb17.jpg\"><br \/>\nI made Grace do this. This was the week that Barack Obama was in town!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb21.jpg\"><br \/>\nThe week after, 3rd May 2014.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb18.jpg\"><br \/>\nBesides playing bass, Jie Er is also a full-time fly collector.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb20.jpg\"><br \/>\nWhat does her cap say? Ka-pow!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb22.jpg\"><br \/>\nMelissa&#8217;s eyes are surprisingly big when she takes her glasses off.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb23.jpg\"><br \/>\nAudrey <i>dun sad<\/i>!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb24.jpg\"><br \/>\nThe crowd is really getting into the groove.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb25.jpg\"><br \/>\nThey gotta be, when the band plays a wide-spanning mix of covers from as early as The Beatles to today&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb26.jpg\"><br \/>\n&#8230;all evenly traversing pop music&#8217;s catalog.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb27.jpg\"><br \/>\nThis, however, is of course Celebration.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb28.jpg\"><br \/>\nTired?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb29.jpg\"><br \/>\nSurprise mike!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb30.jpg\"><br \/>\nThe setlist was switched up a bit&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb31.jpg\"><br \/>\n&#8230;with some 90s hits I&#8217;d never heard them cover before&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb32.jpg\"><br \/>\n&#8230;like <i>Cranberries &#8211; Zombie<\/i> and <i>The Rembrandts &#8211; I&#8217;ll Be There For You<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb33.jpg\"><br \/>\nOf course, these pictures are all of the same singalong. I&#8217;m just spacing out my narration between pictures.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb34.jpg\"><br \/>\nMelissa turns around and taps the intro riff to <i>Guns &#038; Roses &#8211; Sweet Child Of Mine<\/i>. As always, Dotters&#8217; Division has a different take on these songs, with the solo played on saxophone and a country-style bassline! It worked awesomely.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb38.jpg\"><br \/>\nFast-forward to 2 weeks later: 17th May 2014.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb37.jpg\"><br \/>\nThis time I brought the widest rectilinear lens I had, the Sigma 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG, for a different view. Anything on the side gets stretched ridiculously, like Kevin Ong on the right (filling in for Audrey) &#8211; both his head and guitar are stretched outwards.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb36.jpg\"><br \/>\nLinet&#8217;s shirt is super cool, in that the guitars are anatomically correct &#8211; the fret inlays and number of frets were all correct for each guitar type, a rare case when looking at illustrated guitars! None of them had 24 frets though (indicated by the 2 dots per fret, like on the 12th fret &#8211; Jie Er&#8217;s bass has 24 frets) so my favorite Humbucker\/Single-coil\/Humbucker 24-fret Superstrat shape is not represented.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pbddb35.jpg\"><br \/>\nLooks like somebody now has the budget to dye more of her hair red. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This here is a compilation of three gigs, all at Phat Barrels, Publika.
