{"id":604,"date":"2006-04-07T01:52:44","date_gmt":"2006-04-07T01:52:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/?p=604"},"modified":"2013-11-15T05:53:50","modified_gmt":"2013-11-15T05:53:50","slug":"troubadours-open-doors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/?p=604","title":{"rendered":"Troubadours Open Doors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here comes the last batch of Troubadours pictures &#8211; this time, from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/?p=584\">Troubadours\/Open Doors<\/a> gig on the 19th of March 2006, at the Indicine, KL Performing Arts Centre.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t remember much of the first short film, other than a lot of clouds.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/todb1.jpg\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.20six.co.uk\/justin_guber\" target=\"_BLANK\">Khai<\/a> starts the musical set on an upside-down-restrung-leftie guitar, with classic singalongs from his Khaimano days, including the ever-so-relevant <i>This Is Black Metal<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/todb2.jpg\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/rhapsody-music.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_BLANK\">Rhapsody<\/a> the jazzy duo.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/todb4.jpg\"><br \/>\nThe projector was interfering with the photos, yes indeed, even from the side.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/todb3.jpg\"><br \/>\nTaking a picture with flash was not enough to get rid of the projected light, so I had to change to manual mode, 1\/500th of a second to darken the effect of the projector.<\/p>\n<p>Then came a short film. Liew Seng Tat&#8217;s <b>Flowers<\/b> was a most vivid, disturbing short film about what I reckon is an old lady reminiscing about her affair with a Japanese soldier during the Japanese occupation. Except, of course, that the flashback is in color, and the old lady doesn&#8217;t look any younger. Kudos to the director for also being the star, the Japanese soldier (just like how Khai was the star of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/?p=591\">Ciplak<\/a>). Yeah, there were scenes. Like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesilentroom.net\" target=\"_BLANK\">Fazri<\/a> said, &#8220;<i>My eyes! Argh my eyes!<\/i>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/todb5.jpg\"><br \/>\n<b>Jerome Kugan<\/b> the Morrisey-isque, amazing falsettoed singer. He sings over techno beats he programs himself!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/todb8.jpg\"><br \/>\nHis laptop plays his beats.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/todb6.jpg\"><br \/>\nTo equalize the exposure from the screen and him, I used flash at 1\/80th of a second shutter speed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/todb7.jpg\"><br \/>\nHe dances, feels the music, and his expressions are truly in tune with the space and time vortex conjured by his dreamy soundscapes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here comes the last batch of Troubadours pictures &#8211; this time, from the Troubadours\/Open Doors gig on the 19th of March 2006, at the Indicine, KL Performing Arts Centre.
