{"id":734,"date":"2006-10-08T10:39:35","date_gmt":"2006-10-08T10:39:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/?p=734"},"modified":"2006-10-08T10:39:35","modified_gmt":"2006-10-08T10:39:35","slug":"niii-cant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glaringnotebook.com\/?p=734","title":{"rendered":"Niii Can&#8217;t"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/nikoncoolpixsurgery.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Little knew that I bought <a href=\"http:\/\/crazystrat.xfresh.com\" target=\"_BLANK\">William<\/a>&#8216;s old Nikon Coolpix 2200 camera to modify, into an auto-focus infrared-enabled camera!<\/p>\n<p><b>From left to right, top to bottom<\/b>: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Nikon Coolpix 2200, with 3x zoom and a variety of scene modes e.g. Landscape which would be the closest thing to focus at infinity and a dark aperture.<\/li>\n<li>It is also the same size as my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/?p=462\">Canon Powershot A520<\/a>. Minus the manual controls, sadly, or even an adjustable ISO sensitivity! I detest Nikon for discarding manual controls on entry-level cameras, when it used to have it.<\/li>\n<li>I opened it up, and touched the flash capacitor at least three times, getting a nice numbing zap each time.<\/li>\n<li>Spot the SD card slot!<\/li>\n<li>The auto-focus gears.<\/li>\n<li>The cursed item &#8211; the infrared-blocking filter!<\/li>\n<li>Upon reassembling, I found it very challenging to reinsert the circuit combs.<\/li>\n<li>The optical viewfinder is dusty.<\/li>\n<li>The infrared-blocking filter, removed.<\/li>\n<li>The tripod mount, plastic, but at least it is not part of the camera. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesilentroom.net\" target=\"_BLANK\">Fazri<\/a> would appreciate this!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So what happened to it? Why don&#8217;t you see me carrying it around?<\/p>\n<p>I killed it. I popped in batteries and a SD card, and it didn&#8217;t turn on.<\/p>\n<p>Upon reassembling it, I found two extra pieces that I could not figure where it belonged to\/dropped out from. I also had three extra screws!<\/p>\n<p>For some reason, Nikon and I just don&#8217;t get along well. I&#8217;ve held a Nikon D70s which randomly refused to focus despite having a bright f1.8 lens, and not too dark conditions. I&#8217;ve also touched <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paultan.org\" target=\"_BLANK\">Paul<\/a>&#8216;s new D80, which had some weird inability to autofocus until he reset something. Not to mention that I am not a fan of the D50&#8217;s noise levels, or Nikon&#8217;s mellower colors, or the fact that Nikon is <b>not<\/b> playing catch up or bothering to include newer features the same way Canon did when they came out with the 400D.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment, I guess my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/?p=733\">manual focus infrared-modded Fujifilm Digital Q1<\/a> will have to do.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Little knew that I bought William&#8216;s old Nikon Coolpix 2200 camera to modify, into an auto-focus infrared-enabled camera!
