Harap tak pancit.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>He played some new shit. Some old shit. Some refashioned shit. All good shit. Az is Malaysia&#8217;s violent acoustic fingerstyle guitarist with a penchant for alternate tunings, gentle guitar dynamics, and medleys of Beatles songs (all on one guitar, like Daytripper with both vocal lines and basslines!)<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and I think it was his first public performance of <i>Nirvana &#8211; Smells Like Teen Spirit<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan2.jpg\"><br \/>\nShelley meanwhile, upped her performance photogenicness. \ud83d\ude00 All that raw emotion oozing from her face, I felt like crying too. (This was before the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/?p=801\">Minolta 70-210mm F4 beercan lens<\/a>, shot using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smashpop.net\" target=\"_BLANK\">smashpOp<\/a>&#8216;s Sony 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 at 120mm, F6.3, 1\/15s, ISO1600.)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan3.jpg\"><br \/>\nWah, pedal!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan4.jpg\"><br \/>\nOpen mike, and it&#8217;s awesome fingerstyle guitarist <a href=\"http:\/\/daveyoong.blogspot.com\" target=\"_BLANK\">Dave Yoong<\/a>! He had a few tricks up his sleeves, too.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan5.jpg\"><br \/>\nRozhan joins Az to jam some jazz standards. I didn&#8217;t know if it was a jazz thing for both of them to take audible breaths at the same time, and sometimes take turns taking breaths, but not related to who was playing or taking turns.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan6.jpg\"><br \/>\nEmoticus maximus.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan7.jpg\"><br \/>\nNow, with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aldatan.net\" target=\"_BLANK\">Alda<\/a> on bass and <b>Zalila Lee<\/b> on percussions!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan8.jpg\"><br \/>\nZalila aspires to be a hip candid shooter while playing the percussions with the other hand. Ah, the days when I slinged my Canon Powershot A520 on its belt pouch snapping everything as proof of something.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan9.jpg\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.xanga.com\/i_want_a_djembe\" target=\"_BLANK\">Reza Salleh<\/a>, soul\/rock crooner and Moonshine and Feedback gig organizer, gets an epiphany.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward to <b>17th January 2007<\/b>, same place, right after I got the beercan lens.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan10.jpg\"><br \/>\nCrispness at the 210mm F4 1\/60s end!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan11.jpg\"><br \/>\nSame, but at 1\/8th of a second.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan12.jpg\"><br \/>\nIt&#8217;s like they teach looking emo in Berkley. Hmmm, maybe they do.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan13.jpg\"><br \/>\nGuess that chord! (This is a 600&#215;898 crop shrunk in half to 300&#215;449 to show the power of the beercan. <s>Beer goggles<\/s> beercan makes it look good!)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan14.jpg\"><br \/>\nI&#8217;ve been meaning to catch Az do this. (No, he&#8217;s not shielding himself from the bright spotlights.)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan15.jpg\"><br \/>\nKnock on wood.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan16.jpg\"><br \/>\nI&#8217;ve never seen anyone so happy to be tuning his guitar.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan17.jpg\"><br \/>\nTwo plugs &#8211; one for the guitar pickup, the other to pick up the sound of knocking on the guitar!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan18.jpg\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.xanga.com\/yeemeng\" target=\"_BLANK\">Zach Tay<\/a> plays alternative rock and shreds the blues madly.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan19.jpg\"><br \/>\nFinally, some flare! 50mm, F1.4, 1\/3s (the main factors being overexposure, wide-open aperture and having a bright light somewhat out of the frame.)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan20.jpg\"><br \/>\nThis was not combined from two pictures.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan21.jpg\"><br \/>\nAz tunes. Everyone is happy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan22.jpg\"><br \/>\nMore extreme closeup goodness at 210mm F4. For once Az plays the blues without going all jazzy and <i>haram<\/i> on us. Yay!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan23.jpg\"><br \/>\nA most massive Chumbawamba-esque jam fest. From left: Two guitarists (Az and Shelley), two bassists (Loon and Alda), two percussionists (Stephanie and Zalila).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan24.jpg\"><br \/>\nOh, and Zarul the blowing the blues!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan26.jpg\"><br \/>\nYep, we&#8217;ve all seen him with Isaac Entry. Interesting change of pace, this.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan25.jpg\"><br \/>\nAnother surprise came in what Shelley called her happy blues song &#8211; Az sings the blues!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glaringnotebook.com\/zimages\/saan27.jpg\"><br \/>\nArgh I forgot her name, and her friend&#8217;s name too. She had a beautiful, slightly fragile-yet-chin-up voice.
