RAWR!!! The Gig Goes To Paradox Part 4, 22nd December, 2012! This is Paradox Art Cafe, a cafe with an interesting concept – they sell art, and I quite like the food there. The stage faces a balcony and is open-air.
First up, Emilia Z! Little did I know I would later be acquainted with this super cool geek girl.
Nabeel, similiarly an ex-stranger I photographed, playing guitar for her.
She did a cover of Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps.
Next up, The Morkuthis. I’d meet the band later at a mamak thanks to connector of all things, Ann Na.
Christina faces the fan and makes for photogenic hair.
Heart-A-Tack, for when you have to pin down love.
All shots with the Sony Alpha 99, Sony Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 24mm F2.0 ZA SSM and Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 135mm F1.8 ZA.
I have this habit of borrowing people’s shades and camwhoring with them.
No, wait, I need to use the new term for it – selfie.
While at it, here’s the balcony!
Believe it or not, this was the first time I had been there (I haven’t posted anything from Paradox before this, and yet it feels like I’d been there for one more gig, perhaps without my camera?)
For This Cycle…
Darren Ashley brings a cutout to show his support…
…for the Mordo Blasters!
Isaac on rare acoustic guitar. He’s normally ripping out some hot licks.
Drum and bass also make a mini horn section.
Next up, An Honest Mistake, in its most minimalist form. I’m sure I’ve seen a caricaturized version of Sheryl Goh doing exactly this somewhere before.
Darren Teh, frontman and chug-a-chug guitarist. There’s a particular way he transitions between riffs that is quite distinct. I remember me noting this with a musician of caliber in the audience. It is best described as chug-a-chug.
Sheryl Goh, again.
Darren Teh, again.
Originally, Darren’s expression in this picture was, pardon my Malaysian basolect, “cannot make it“. I like how his hair flies in this, so I’ve remade this in the style of a popular 2013 meme. By the way, while you’re there, right-click and click View Page Source.
To Kill A Mockingbird.
This is Amanda Love.
This band is quite simply called…
My Friend’s Band.
