Random Video And Photos

Lightcraft, performing “All In My Mind”, live at Laundry Bar. This was for the Moonshine: A Homemade Music Show gig on the 7th of October 2010.

Recorded using a Sony SLT-A55 with the Carl Zeiss 135mm F1.8 ZA and audio is from the built-in stereo mike. Unfortunately with no audio monitor I didn’t know it was clipping the vocals so pardon that – I gotta get an external mike. AF is on, with the center AF point used.

Converted from 1080p25 to 720p24 (the overrated 24p magic number.)

In other news:

I’ve started my very first Facebook group, “Our Beards Grow To The Right“. Join if you’re a dude whose beard grows to your right, or if you’re a fan of dudes whose beards grow to their right.

I have yet to meet somebody whose beard grows to their left, oddly. Also, my right sideburn grows faster than my left sideburn, and I sleep on my back, not to the side, in case you’re wondering.

Here’s Iqbal’s Sony SLT-A55 with Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 EX DC Macro, my Sony SLT-A55 with Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 135mm F1.8 ZA, and BryanLYT‘s Sony SLT-A33 with Tamron 17-50mm F2.8.

Here’s Ijan-The-Face-Of-Malaysian-Stock-Photos‘ Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC in F-mount with Richard’s Nikon G F-mount to E-mount adapter on my Sony Alpha NEX-5. And of course, the ever photogenic Zoey!

GIF-ted

Moonshine: A Homemade Music Show, 12th August 2010, at Laundry Bar. Here’s the funky acoustic Zalila Lee!

No that’s not a flash bang, but the LED lights. And this blog entry has pictures which are all GIF files, on purpose.

…which brings to mind that I could’ve made animations but didn’t.

David Knight is a tweaker.

He is also a haunting tunester with a fisherman’s hat.

Beware his plague of sonic noise, chorused and echoed! He did a most fantastic mellotron-ic cover of The Beatles – Because.

Then came The Halfway Kings!

Joachim on guitar!

Gotta love Adeline’s lyrics. Songs about fighting and punching, and the shape of things and people.

Once Upon A Time There Was A Sausage Named Bob!

And once upon a time, that was their band name.

Good ol’ young (old, young?) power pop and uh… man, I can’t quite put their genre but according to their site, randomness. Which is a good description.

Hooray for not saying your genre is indie…

…as indie is not very descriptive sometimes.

GIFfed

Moonshine: A Homemade Music Show, down at Laundry Bar, on the 8th of July 2010. Here’s melancholic Rendra Zawawi!

Today’s special theme – 3 to 5-bit GIF pictures! (2 to the power of 5 = 32, which is the maximum number of colors.)

Azmyl Yunor brings on the folk.

It’s not that straightforward to make a GIF conversion that expresses detail in all areas. A fair bit of dodging and unsharp masking is necessary.

Jangan tak rock!

Cynosure.

The NEX-5 with 16mm F2.8 pancake comes in real handy here…

They bring on hard rock, 90’s style (think Stone Temple Pilots, yeah!)

And of course, fans and supporters.

Then was Mari Soul, who was lightly reggae-ish.

I’d seen them before as Mari Soul Faith Leaper

…when they covered The Foo Fighters in a previous Moonshine Tribute Edition.

Rudy and I.

Ramainya Doh!

One 24th of April 2010 I went down to Artista, that gig venue/restaurant/bar down the corner of Tropicana City Mall.

That night, Artista was rocking with The Ramanados!

Gregory Ramanado, frontman, mesmerizes the audience.

Attentive audience is attentive!

He dances, prances, raps, scats, and rocks your socks off.

Sometimes, he rocks his hat off, too.

It was Herman Ramanado’s birthday celebration. Here he is ripping a bass solo.

Steven Ramanado, meanwhile, sang a bit of Bob Marley. He celebrated his new dreadlocks with a dedication to the rastafarians!

There was also a fair bit of The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Incubus.

At the bar. It was a lot darker than this.

Darren Ashley, soundman, took to the stage, looking all rock star.

He does funky fingerstyle and boomboxing.

And then Gregory came on, to tell Herman to take it to the bridge!

His new air guitar is real light.

Steven also took to the keyboards. Which is funny because I’d usually see Herman on piano.

Herman, meanwhile, pimping up Jared Cheow’s drumset.

Everybody has a go! Left to right: Jared Cheow, Herman, Ashwin Gobinath.

Jared on bass.

Break for the cake.

Birthday boy on his brother’s lovely weathered Fender.

Now if only my weathered goods had such value!

The night went on with an encore and a big jam session that resulted in quite many “one more song!” calls.

Tisa joins in for the encore!

It’s been a while since I have done such a remix. ’twas fun! The new effect is Difference Clouds with Soft Light overlay mode.

Juneshine 2010

10th June 2010 was Moonshine: A Homemade Music Show, down at Laundry Bar.

This is Slowjaxx!

His wife and son! (This was a focus-stacked shot.)

Into the void.

This is the happy jazzy Bedroom Sanctuary.

Funky happy bandmates! They did a cover of Nirvana – Lithium and a most excellent cover of Daft Punk – Something About Us (if there is one song I could ask them to cover this would be it.)

The return of singer-songwriter Ariff Akhir!

Among the originals they also did a cover of Rolling Stones – Spider And The Fly and Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here.

135mm F1.8 1/6s ISO3200 – only because I don’t have a better caption.

Hey you pay attention coz I’M THE BAWS!

David Knight, experimental multi-instrumentalist with a penchant to trip your mind.

Despite all the ambient sounds his instruments makes, he does first and foremost have a haunting voice!

Mayshine 2010

13th March 2010: Moonshine: A Homemade Music Show at Laundry Bar.

This earnest lass is Lauren Hobler.

All the way from New York!

Local boy lah macha. Sound man and the fan.

And there’s the bluesy folkster Isaac Entry!

He does look like he’s lost a bit of weight.

Bring on the lounge beats…

…and some jazzy syncopated funk…

…and you get the incredible Granadilla Band.

Add a fair share of licks too!

Sweet MIDI guitar.

No one can resist the jazz-funk junk!

Faz looks at you knowingly – she knows she got tone.

Too much for Nisha!

Fook; bass.

The band was Thing One

…featuring powerful songbird Najwa!

They too play an assortment of styles in the funky jazzy soul rock kind of way. This is a very cool metal drum which has different-sized indentations, which create different notes!

Eh sing along lah!

8-4 Rock On The Floor

8th April 2010: A relatively band-heavy instalment of Moonshine: A Homemade Music Show down at Laundry Bar.

This was Tenderfist

…which I could describe as slower synthpop in the vein of New Order.

Great stuff!

Next up was Sphere.

I’d call it shoegazing…

…but happy.

Wide open my Vivitar 24mm F2.0 makes me wish for the speedy arrival of the Zeiss 24mm F2.0. Fortunately it isn’t priced anywhere near my Zeiss 135mm F1.8!

Then came a band I hadn’t seen in ages – KLPHQ!

This was definitely a harder night.

Last I counted, they should be the Kuala Lumpur Post-Harmonic Quintet.

Hooray for on-stage lighting.

Reza introduces the next band…

The Otherside Orchestra!

Gotta love his shirt. I don’t even have one myself!

Disco rock and roll.

Eh bro why doesn’t this part of the song have any keyboard parts?

Gotta love their disco light! Sadly the two lights they also brought to project from the front could not work.

Here’s Eddy looking all samurai…

…and Badak with a cool shirt, and Diyana! (Hey Happy Birthday!)

(Edited – it’s Badak, not Rudy, heh.)

March Rock Anthems

Hey so I hear we’re in for a good show tonight!

Joshua Foong brings a mellower set.

MC Reza and his gig – Moonshine: A Homemade Music Show, at Laundry Bar, a certain 11th of March 2010!

As always, the full bands come after the acoustic performers.

Ash (who I haven’t gotten to see in his other band!)

No this is not Car Crash Hearts – this is the rocking Rashdan Harith!

Yes he solos on an acoustic guitar.

This guitar lick is hot! No, literally, it is hot ouch!

Then came Benchmarx, rock and roll!

He looks like a member of The Scorpions. They’re a bunch of teachers from an international school somewhere in KL.

This guy also looks like a member of The Scorpions.

Jimmy North, also a standup comic, brings an energetic frontman persona!

Ah, how lovely them videotapin’ ladies are.

I don’t even remember what this effect was but I think it was a siren. Pretty darn cool!

This guy has killer chops and sings a bang on rendition of Bon Scott. Or was it more like Brian Johnson? I don’t remember. Heck I didn’t even realize there were two (major) vocalists in AC/DC until I looked it up today!

This video can help you can identify the difference (Brian is the grouchier sounding guy with cap; Bon has a slightly more classic rock voice.)

Jimmy raps too, in one of those old school Aerosmith crossover ways!

To keep up the high voltage rock, Pitbull Inc. was next!

Man you gotta hear Steven. One powerhouse vocalist he is!

Gotta love that weathered sunburst top look.

I don’t know why I looked, but I did.” Thank you!

Steven dude you gotta do that Queen cover you’re fantastic at! Next round yo.

Stereopath And Alda’s 27th

It was Stereopath down at Laundry Bar a certain 25th of February 2010. Here are Deserters!

Next up was Car Crash Hearts.

This is what happens when you stack too many effects. 😀

Alda, whose birthday was that day!

Color was weird on this one so I made it monochrome.

Naked Breed, hard-rocking.

Since I shot this in landscape orientation I had difficulty piecing it in the montage.

Cool portrait-shirted band…

Flop Poppy!

Charlotte, Broken Scar and Rashdan Harith!

Birthday boy and uncut cake.

Birthday boy cutting cake.

A long-haired me, a long-haired Clara and a short-haired grrrlrocker Rina Omar.

I’m-not-your-videotapin’-mama Mahani, me and Rina!

I could never remember her name but I recognize her by her tattoo. (Obviously, the upsized wings need some coloring to hide the tiny wings.) Oh and Avril Chan!

Rudy with a cool shirt, Bo with a cool Spongebob, and Nick with a cool shirt.

Ozzy Osbourne and dD!

Here goes, pictures, almost exactly half a year after.

Kevin, David and Cindy!

Alda: Wah you want me to drink that? It’s on fire!
Clara: Aiyo what is this lah you’re 27 already!

Clara: Come lah I help you.

The guys sang Happy Birthday again, and it was like 10 years ago since we got to Bonggol!

Tweetyear

Here’s over a year’s worth of Twitter posts, which I have not repeated on my blog. The reason why I don’t like Twitter or any external content-storing site other than my blog is because there is always that risk that the content you have on whichever site will become inaccessible someday.

Okay, so I’ve ranted about this before!

In other updates, I’ve had a Sony Alpha NEX-5 and Sony E 16mm F2.8 since 1st July 2010 and a Sony LA-EA1 A-mount to E-mount lens adapter since 3rd July 2010 and no time to blog about it, or even to blog about the Sony Alpha 290, Sony Alpha 390, Sony Handycam NEX-VG10 HD interchangeable lens camcorder (the model name almost sounds like a NEX vertical grip heh!) Oh and the fantastic X-Rite ColorChecker Passport.

Anyway, here goes:
